Site Location

Located on Tidal Bore Road in Lower Truro, NS, adjacent to Exit 14, Route 102, the Palliser consists of a Restaurant, Motel and Gift Shop on 10 Acres of land overlooking the Salmon River and Marshlands with unobstructed views to the North, South and West. Route 102 bounds the East side of the property and separates our site from the Robie Street shopping district. The property overlooks the Bay of Fundy Tidal Bore which travels up the Salmon River twice daily. The property is suitable for continued operation as a tourist attraction or for re-development for other commercial purposes.

The Palliser Restaurant and Gifts

Consists of a 40' x 80' building which contains a Main Dining Room, a Banquet/Meeting Room, and a Gift Shop. The building was constructed in 1953 and has operated on a seasonal basis since that time. The present owners have operated the business for the past 42 years. The building is of wood frame construction with Stucco exterior, a Full Basement, and Asphalt Shingle Roof.

Dining Room

The Dining Room is approximately 40' x 40' with 94 Seats. The walls are finished with Knotty Pine Boards and the ceiling is Knotty Pine Paneling with Wooden Pine beams. Two walls of the room contain picture windows which afford an excellent view of the Salmon River and Marshlands, also the bay of Fundy Tidal bore.

Banquet Room

The Banquet/Meeting Room is 16' x 22' with Knotty Pine Wall Boards and Knotty Pine paneled Ceiling. A Brick Fire Place occupies the North Wall. Seating Capacity is 24 People. The East Wall overlooks the parking Lot and the Motel on the east side of Tidal Bore Road.

Gift Shop

The Gift Shop is approximately 14' x 50' with the same walls and ceiling finishes as the Dining and banquet rooms. A brick Fire Place occupies the South Wall.

Wash Rooms

Public Wash Rooms are located in the basement.

Kitchen Facilities

The Main Kitchen is adjacent to the Dining Room and Is approximately 30' x 24'. Kitchen contains the following equipment:

  • Two Propane Deep Fat Fryers
  • Walk in Refrigerator

A Dessert Kitchen with an Electric Convention Oven and an Electric Range are located in the basement along with a Vegetable preparation Area. Area also contains a Refrigerator, a Stand up Freezer, a Walk-In Refrigerator and a Walk-In Freezer.

Motel

Motel Office

The Motel Office building dates back to the end of the 18th centaury. It is a two story building of wood frame construction with a full basement. Foundation walls are partially stone with some concrete sections.

The first floor contains the Reception Desk with Ice Machine and Computer for the use of guests.

The Laundry Room contains Two Commercial Washing Machines and Two Commercial Propane Dryers. The Linen Storage area is adjacent to the Laundry Room.

The Second Floor Is a Rental Unit( # 43 ) with Bedroom, Living Room, and Kitchen. This unit will accommodate up to Six People.

Motel Units

The motel consists of 42 Rental Units
in five separate sections.

Section 1 - 10

A Ten Room section, constructed in the early 50's. Construction is Wood Frame with Stucco Exterior, on concrete pad with Asphalt Shingle Roof. Recently three walls have been re-built. Bathrooms and all pluming and fixtures replaced. Nine rooms contain two double beds. One room is Handicap Accessible and has two single beds. All rooms in this section are Air Conditioned and have Electric Heat. The exterior has been recently covered with Vinyl Siding.

Section 11 - 24 (Thirteen Rooms)

Rooms were constructed in late 40's as cabins and later configured into standard motel format. Construction is wood frame on concrete pad with Asphalt Shingle Roof. All Bathrooms have been re- modeled and new Tubs and Showers installed. One unit has been completely rebuilt and has Air Conditioning. Units are Electrically Heated. Some rooms have two Double beds, one has a Queen Bed and one has two single beds.

Room 25

This unit is a cottage, with three double beds, Air Conditioning, and Electric Heat. Construction is Wood Frame, with Asphalt Shingle Roof, and Vinyl Siding, on concrete pad. Unit was completely re-built recently. Electric Heat.

Section 26 - 40

Rooms were constructed in late 40's as cabins and later configured into standard motel format. Construction is wood frame on concrete pad with Asphalt Shingle Roof. All Bathrooms have been re- modeled and new Tubs and Showers installed. Units are Electrically Heated. One room has two twins and one double bed. Three have Queen Beds. Two have two double beds. All are Electrically Heated.

Section 41-42

A two room unit with King Beds built in the 70's. Wood Frame with Vinyl Siding.

Tidal Bore Center

A Tidal Bore Interpretive Center and Flood Lights are located adjacent to the Restaurant to provide information on the Tidal Bore and to allow for night viewing of the Bore.
